At QuizBam, we believe that numeracy (or fluency in numbers) is an essential life skill, and that this type of basic math education should be available to everyone. Our mission is to provide a free (no-cost) gamified learning platform that boosts your confidence in working with numbers– especially big numbers– that affect your life.
Numbers are all around us, from personal finances, to the stock market, to government budgets, to any given political or ecological issue facing us as a nation or as humanity. When we’re numerate, we’re able to not only make sense of these numbers and why they matter, but we can more clearly see the scale of the problem involved– which makes it easier to advocate for, and likely achieve, solutions to match that scale. An accurate sense of scale also allows us to determine which problems are urgent to tackle, and which ones may be less urgent (or even distorted or over-hyped).
In this fast-paced, volatile world, with endless streams of competing information at our fingertips, numeracy may be more important now than ever before. And with numeracy rates at their lowest in decades, we hope that QuizBam serves as a helpful tool, both for educators and the general public, to practice these problem-solving and critical thinking skills that form the bedrock of a thriving society, economy, and culture.
